2016 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Every year the American Film Institute compiles a list of the 10 best movies and television shows of the previous year. This year this list is chock full of movies and television shows that have strong female performances and we are bound to see the stars of these films and shows on the red carpet of the AFI Awards luncheon red carpet on January 8, 2016. Brie Larson might be this seasons biggest underdog and the one to watch. I am really looking forward to seeing what the Room actress will be bringing to the red carpet. For this event I would love to see Brie wearing this white Bottega Veneta Spring 2016 RTW halter dress. This dress is such a chic and simple look which is perfect for a daytime luncheon. I am hoping that Brie continues to expand her repertoire of designers and this would be a lovely addition. Finish with a pair of simple nude sandals and fresh faced make up to finish this luncheon look off perfectly.
I can't believe I am saying this but I was very underwhelmed by what Cate Blanchett brought to the red carpet last year. I think that this is the first time in a while where I haven't had a single look from Cate gracing any of my end of the year awards. I am hoping that come awards season that Cate finds her footing again as she is set to be on every major red carpet this season. For the AFI Awards I would love to see Cate wearing this Roksanda Spring 2016 RTW ensemble which incorporates a simple sky blue silk blouse and pair of beige desert printed pants with sculptural detail in goldenrod on the right hip. I think that this look is something that many would not be able to pull of but the red carpet queen would have no trouble. This is the type of look that I think Cate needs to get me interested in her again, if she steps out in one more black Armani look I might cry.
I am super excited to see Charlize Theron on the red carpet this awards season. I know that she will undoubtedly be in Dior at all the big events but for some of the smaller event I am hoping that she will dig into some of the other brands that she tends to favor. For the AFI Awards I picked this incredibly chic black Jason Wu Spring 2016 RTW structured dress which features side cutouts and ruffles. I love how this look mixes classic sophistication with a fun flirtatious edge. Charlize knows how to take a simple look like this and make me fall head over heels in love with it. Something like the black Christian Louboutin 'Bareta' studded pumps, casual hair, a red lip, and a Dior clutch would ensure that Charlize slays this look at the AFI Awards.
Claire Danes is another whom I usually love but in 2015 she really let me down. I am hoping that if she takes to the red carpet at the AFI Awards for her show Homeland that she will be back on form. To help her do so I picked a sexy borrowed from the boys type of look. This Versace Spring 2016 RTW black pinstripe dress is something that is sexy and sophisticated, perfect for the AFI Awards luncheon. I know that while some might be tempted to go all Angelina Jolie with their leg and that sexy slit, I know that Claire would keep it classy and just let the leg pop out the split naturally. Finished with a pair of simple black Jimmy Choo pumps and fresh faced makeup and Claire will be ready to hit the red carpet and work it like she hasn't worked on in a long time.
If there was a fashion breakout star in 2015 it had to be Daisy Ridley who captured our hearts and the eye of many of the top designers. As she did such an amazing job while promoting Star Wars: The Force Awakens so I am sure that they will send her to the AFI Awards, where the film is being honored. Since Daisy has yet to double dip on designers I am continuing to expand her base by picking this black Etro Spring 2016 RTW ensemble which consists of a floral printed leather bodice and a tiered eyelet hem skirt. With the caliber of looks that Daisy has been putting out I could see many being bored with this type of look, but I think that the visual interest on the blouse is perfect for this type of more casual type of a red carpet. Finished with soft curls, a pink lip, and a pair of gold Christian Louboutin pointed toe pump and this is a perfect AFI Awards red carpet look.
Emilia Clarke was up and down last year and I am hoping that if she attends the 2016 AFI Awards to represent Game of Thrones that she starts the year on the right foot. What better way to do that than wearing this aqua blue Roland Mouret Spring 2016 RTW flared dress. Emilia is not one who is afraid of a bold color and since the AFI Awards are handed out during a luncheon this more laid back style is totally appropriate. The dress is classic and has a sense of flirtation with it's flared skirt. I would just add a pair of gold Stuart Weitzman 'Nudist' sandals and a pink lip to finish this look off.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" London Premiere Wish List

"The Hunger Game: Mockingjay Part 2" will premiere in London on Thursday November 5, 2015 and I am expecting a rather large celebrity turn out. The ladies, and gentlemen, of the series will surly be out in troves to mark the final London premiere for "The Hunger Games" franchise. Jennifer Lawrence, AKA Katniss Everdeen, is obviously going to present at the premiere and I gotta say I am quite intrigued as to what she will end up wearing. JLaw is a signed face of Christian Dior, but with the news this past week that Dior creative director Raf Simons is stepping down will Jennifer still have to wear Dior for EVERY red carpet? I guess this red carpet will be the tell. If she does wear Dior for this premiere I would love to see her wear this mauve Christian Dior Fall 2015 Couture strapless gown. This gown mixes sporty and feminine glamour which are the looks that Jennifer ends up rocking the most on the red carpet. This look paired with diamond cluster earrings, gold sandals, a gold clutch, fresh faced makeup, and a chic updo will ensure that Jennifer has a winning moment at this major premiere for her.
Elizabeth Banks has A LOT to live up to with what she wears on the red carpet for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" premiere thanks to the Elie Saab Couture gown that she wore to the premiere of "Mockingjay Part 1" last year. The first promo tours for this franchise Elizabeth rocked orange for the red carpet and I think it would be nice to see her come full circle wearing this incredibly dramatic Marchesa Spring 2016 RTW sherbet to coral ombre gown which is rendered in textured tulle and features an ombre skirt with a feathered threadwork embroidered bird bodice. This is a bold statement, definitely something her character Effie Trinket would approve of. Elizabeth has the stature to carry this gown off, the question is will she go bold or will she let JLaw shine? Elizabeth should wear a pair of gold sandals, a pink lip, and a vintage inspired updo to ensure that she doesn't overcook this look as too many accessories or jewels will ruin this beautiful statement.
Red carpet rebel Jena Malone is one that I am looking at very closely to see what she is going to wear for the "Mockingjay Part 2" premiere. I absolutely adore Jena's edgy style and it breaks up what is usually a lot of pretty on the red carpet. I would love to see Jena brave London's cold and rock the hell out of this black sheer Schiaparelli Fall 2015 Couture gown which features a beautiful gold sunburst embellished embroidery on the bodice. This gown gives a very distinct 20's Erte art deco style and I think that Jena would look incredibly chic and sexy wearing this gown. Finish the look with old Hollywood waves, a gold clutch, a pair of black sandals, and a bold red lip to keep the vintage inspired air of this look going.
Julianne Moore has been consistently killing it this year on the red carpet and I hope that she finishes with a strong promo tour for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2." Last year for the London premiere of "Mockingjay Part 1" Julianne wore looking stunning in a simple black Balenciaga cocktail gown, I am hoping for a little more drama when she takes to the red carpet for the "Mockingjay Part 2" premiere. I would love to see Julianne Moore wearing this Givenchy Couture gown that was presented alongside the Spring 2016 RTW collection. This gown is a re-envisioning of a gown that Riccardo Tisci first presented in his Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture collection and it has only gotten better. I love the brown ombre feathers on the skirt over the yellow that it was first crafted as. I think Juliane would kill this dark statement gown on the red carpet. Finish the look with a bronze clutch, a pair of bronze heels, old Hollywood waves, and a red lip and this look is for sure going to be one that people will be talking about the next day.
Gwendoline Christie is joining the ranks of the star-studded of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" for the final installment of the series. I am learning to love what the incredibly tall actress, Gwendoline is 6' 3" tall, is wearing on the red carpet and am quite looking forward to what she is going to wear for this premiere. I would pick this white Osman Spring 2016 RTW halter neck caped gown for Gwendoline to wear on this red carpet. I think that this look is classic and modern all at the same time and Gwendoline would look innately regal wearing this design. Add a pair of silver sandals, finger waves, and a pink lip and this is for sure one of the chicest moments on the red carpet.
Natalie Dormer, like Jena Malone, usually brings something edgy to the red carpet. For the "Mockingjay Part 2" premiere in London I would love to see Natalie wear this amazing Roksanda Spring 2016 RTW primrose yellow "Lexie" dress which features an asymmetric high neck and a layered fringe construction throughout with a flat back and a black belted waist. I think that Natalie is one of the few women that could make this type of avant garde gown work on a red carpet. Now if she decided not to wear the belt I think that she would get lost in the froufiness of this gown, but I believe that she wont. Finish the look off very simply with a sleek updo, red lip, black clutch, and black sandals to ensure that this gown is not overtaken by the styling and keeps its awesome impact.

Elizabeth Banks for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" International Promo Tour Wish List

I was sooooooo excited that Elizabeth Banks was on the Jury of the 2015 Venice Film Festival, and while she didn't have any fashion failures I expected a lot more. I am hoping that she really blows me away with her "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" promo tour. Today I am just showing the what Elizabeth should wear for the international premieres, not London or LA. For the Berlin premiere of the film, on November 4, I would love to see Elizabeth wear this Elie Saab Fall 2015 Couture embroidered peplum gown with its deep plunge. Elizabeth and Elie Saab have always been a winning pair in my book and I am sure that she will wear at least one of the designers gowns for the "Mockingjay Part 2" promo tour. This elegant and sexy gown is a perfect choice for Elizabeth as she tends to go for softer more romantic looks and this mixes that with sex appeal. Finish the look with a pair of gold Jimmy Choo sandals to ensure that this a perfect red carpet moment.
For a premiere in New York City I would pick this navy Ralph Lauren Spring 2016 RTW gown which features side cut outs and a scuba neckline. I think that this is a simple yet dramatic gown that Elizabeth is one of few who could pull it off. With such a simple sleek silhouette styling has to be kept minimal; a pair of black Jimmy Choo sandals, a blue Edie Parker clutch, a tight ponytail, and a pair of simple diamond cluster earrings would ensure that Elizabeth sizzles in a modern sexy look on the NYC premiere red carpet.
Finally I would LOVE to see Elizabeth wearing this Roksanda Resort 2016 'Amias' dress rendered in silk morocain and features an illusion neckline in an a-line silhouette with a colorblocked bodice for the "Mockingjay Part 2" premiere in Paris on November 9. I love Elizabeth in Roksanda because they are both modern yet elegant. I am praying that this gown makes it onto a red carpet before the Pre-Fall collections start coming out and Elizabeth ranks pretty high on the list of women that I want to see it because I think that she is one of the few that could handle the abstract colorblocking on the bodice. Styled with a pair of black sandals, an aqua clutch, pretty waves, and a pink like and I think think that Elizabeth will kill the red carpet. I will be sad when this franchise is over but will revel in the amazing moments that are still to come.

#Cannes2015: Sienna Miller Jury Wish List Part 1

After a disappointing run from Sofia Coppola during the Cannes Film Festival last year I am hoping that Sienna Miller will step things off on the right foot and continuously give me amazing red carpet ensembles throughout the festival. For the Feature Film Jury photocall tomorrow I would love to see Sienna kick things off in glamorous, fun fashion wearing this green, white, & yellow Miu Miu Fall 2015 RTW houndstooth ultra feminine dress featuring button detail on the waist. This dress evokes 1950's/1960s' "Stepford Wife" style but I think that this dress would look fresh and modern on Sienna while still evoking that classic style. I would style this look with fresh faced makeup, a wavy bob, & a pair of nude sandals to create the perfect look for the Jury Photocall tomorrow morning.
For the Opening Ceremony and "La Tete Haute" premiere, taking place tomorrow night, my money is really on Sienna walking the red carpet wearing a custom Burberry Prorsum gown. If she doesn't, or actually at any time during the festival, I would love to see Sienna wear this Valentino Spring 2015 Couture caped boho chic with stunning floral embroidery. This chic gown wafted down the Valentino runway with such grace and I think that Sienna would make it look just as glam on the Cannes red carpet. Paired with a pair of gold sandals, a gold clutch, simple earrings, and a chic swept back hairstyle and Sienna will be ensured a winning red carpet moment.
Over the course of the course of the festival I am sure that we are bound to see Sienna Miller wear at least one look from Chanel. I think it would be lovely to see Sienna wear this grey sift style completely sequined Chanel Spring 2014 Couture gown with feather hem embellishments on the red carpet. I think that this is a mix of 1920's elegance with a dash of modernity. The thing that could deter Sienna from wearing this gown is the similar feathered gown from the same collection that Julianne Moore wore during the festival last year. The recently presented Chanel Cruise 2016 collection did showcase a perfect look or two for Sienna to wear as well. Wearing this stunning couture creation with a 20s inspired bob, a red lip, silver sandals and cluster diamond earrings would help Sienna cross this look off of my red carpet wish list.
We are bound to see Sienna wear at least one up and coming British designer on the red carpet during the course of the Cannes Film Festival. My guesses are custom Erdem, Roksanda, or Mary Katrantzou. Picking a runway look from these three was pretty easy because this watermelon pink Roksanda Pre-Fall 2015 "Maury" gown rendered in silk wool blend and features a fitted A-line silhouette with micro-pleating details along the hem. This sleek modern style is perfection and Sienna does wear these plain looks so well. Paired with a wavy bob, a pink lip, a pair of gold sandals, a gold clutch, and a statement gold set diamond necklace this look has the potential to be one of Sienna's best red carpet looks of the entire festival.
And last but not least for today's set of wishes for Sienna, there is another coming tomorrow, is this stunning black Givenchy Fall 2015 RTW embellished gown. The zigzag beaded flutter sleeve gown is a modern embodiment of the 1930s and I think that Sienna would look absolutely stunning wearing this creation. A black clutch, a pair of simple black sandals, and a pair of sapphire and diamond drop earrings are the perfect accessories to pair with this look to keep that 30s glamour. All that would be needed to finish this look with chic waves and a red lip to ensure that Sienna makes this anything but another black gown on the red carpet.

2015 Academy Awards: Naomi, Nicole, Sienna & Zoe Wish List

I am excited to see Naomi Watts on the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday night where she is going to be on hand as a presenter. I love seeing Naomi because I never know what she is going to show up wearing. I am hoping that she goes with classic ladylike glamour wearing this purple embroidered Oscar de la Renta Fall 2015 RTW strapless ballgown with an exaggerated sweetheart neckline. I absolutely loved what Peter Copping did for Oscar de la Renta, it was truly like Oscar had his hands in this collection and I am in love. He hasn't come in a taken the house in his own direction, a la Heidi Slimane and Raf Simons, but really infused his talents into the core beliefs of the Oscar de la Renta legacy. Naomi doesn't do dark and brooding looks very often and I think that this gown would just be fabulous on her. Finish the look with a chic up do, a red lip, a black Edie Parker clutch, a statement diamond necklace and a pair of black sandals and Naomi will slay the Oscars red carpet.
It has been either love or loathe when it comes to what Nicole Kidman has been wearing on the red carpet. I am hoping that she gives me a major moment when it comes to the Academy Awards on Sunday night. Despite the fact that earlier this month Nicole had a major white moment, in Valentino Couture at the Berlin Film Festival, I would still love to see her wear this white double silk georgette Elie Saab Spring 2015 RTW which features a jewel neckline with allover beaded embroidery and draped panels that cascade over the shoulder. I think that this is a dramatic gown that needs a woman with presence to pull it off and I think that Nicole really has that presence. I would add a pair of diamond and colored stone earrings, forgo a clutch, throw on a pair of white peep toe pumps and finish off with a red lip to ensure that this is a dramatic best dressed moment on the red carpet.
Sienna Miller is going to be a busy woman. She will be performing on Broadway in "Cabaret" on Saturday night in New York City and then will be running to catch a red eye flight to LA to fulfill her duties as a presenter at the Academy Awards on Sunday. I am hoping that Sienna will champion a British designer on the Oscars red carpet. While it is more likely that she would wear a custom gown from the likes of Burberry or Alexander McQueen I would love to see Sienna wear this strapless coral Roksanda Pre-Fall 2015 gown rendered in silk wool blend and features a fitted A-line silhouette with micro-pleating details along the hem. I think that Sienna would be the perfect woman to bring Roksanda into being a household name with this gown on the Oscars red carpet. Finish the look with a statement necklace, a gold Edie Parker clutch and a pair of crystal embellished gold Miu Miu sandals and Sienna will hold her own on the tops of best dressed lists.
I am hoping that that Academy Awards on Sunday night sees Zoe Saldana back to her best. I have missed the amazing Zoe that I fell in love with on the red carpet during her pregnancy. I think that this white Jason Wu Fall 2015 RTW halter gown with a keyhole and thin black belt would be an amazing red carpet moment for Zoe. This might be too simple for most as an Oscars dress, especially for a high profile presenter, but I think that this would come as a welcome surprise. Finish the look with a pair of dazzling cluster earrings, an Edie Parker clutch, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman 'Nudist' sandals and a bold red lip and Zoe will have a welcome red carpet return come the Oscars.

2014 Toronto International Film Festival Wish List Part 2

Greta Gerwig is quickly becoming a fashion darling. This year alone she has worn custom Donna Karan Atelier, Lanvin, Theory, Narciso Rodriguez, and Stella McCartney, attended a few dinners hosted by Chanel, and was the date of Zac Posen at the CFDA Awards. This just makes me that much more excited to see what Greta is going to keep bringing to the red carpet. Greta will be making the film festival rounds promoting her film "Eden" starting at the Toronto International Film Festival. For the "Eden" premiere I would love to see Greta wear this green Stella McCartney Fall 2014 RTW strapless bustier and tapered pant ensemble. I love this bustier that features draping of not just fabric but the signature fringe of Stella's Fall 2014 collection. There have not been many successful outings of this collection but I do think that Greta can pull this look of with great aplomb. I would keep the styling simple with a pair of dyed to match forest green pointed toe pumps and a gold minaudiere clutch so that the focus is mostly on the stunning bustier.
While I have to say that I am most interested in what "Men, Women, & Children" leading male, Ansel Elgort, will wear for the TIFF premiere of the film, I am also hoping that Jennifer Garner will take to the red carpet to premiere the film as well. I tend to believe that Jennifer looks her best when she is wearing Oscar de la Renta and I am hoping that she will wear the designer for this premiere. Now I am sure that you will see this a lot on the blog in the coming days, but I figure that Jenn will grab a hot off the runway look from the designer as he is presenting his Spring 2015 Collection this coming week. If she wears something that has already been presented I would love to see her wear this blue and green polka dot on silk tulle Oscar de la Renta FALL (sorry it was a typo in the image editing) 2014 RTW collection. If I know Jennifer's style well enough I know that she would pair this look with a pair of black pumps and some simple jewels to finish off this look for the red carpet.
I know very little when it comes to Holliday Grainger's red carpet style and even less about her acting abilities. I do know that she is a British born actress who has had some rolls in "The Borgias" and "Great Expectations." Next year Holliday will have to hold her own on the red carpet next to Cate Blanchett while they promote "Cinderella" with Lily James and Helena Bonham Carter. I figure we will see Holliday represent a British brand when she premieres her film "The Riot Club" at TIFF this year. This strapless Nicholas Oakwell Spring 2014 Couture tea length gown embellished with white and pink beaded florals would be a sweet elegant choice for Holliday to wear for her first major major red carpet. I would finish this look with a pair of hot pink pumps and a sleek hairstyle to ensure that Holliday wears the gown and the gown does not wear her.
We are about to see a whole hell of a lot of Natalie Dormer on the red carpet. The "Game of Thrones" actress is presenting "The Riot Club" at TIFF and then will go on to promote "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1." I can honestly say that I am very excited to see what Natalie is going to bring to the red carpet coming up. For the most part Natalie has worn British brands on the red carpet and it will be interesting to see if she keeps it up. I am predicting that for the TIFF premiere of "The Riot Club" Natalie should wear this Roksanda Resort 2015 cocktail dress that consists of a bright yellow and navy sculpted one shoulder blouse and navy tone on tone pencil skirt. Natalie has the presence to ensure that this dress would overwhelm her. Paired with a pair of nude pumps, a sleek hairstyle, and a pink lip Natalie would rock the TIFF premiere of "The Riot Club"
We have not seen much of Amanda Seyfried on the red carpet since the 2013 Awards season where she promoted "Les Miserables" with the rest of her cast, so I was really excited to see her name amongst those that have films premiering at TIFF. When it is not Awards Season or the Met Ball we tend to see Amanda rock shorter lengths and that is probably what she will do when it comes to the TIFF premiere of her film "While We're Young" but I have remained optimistic and decided to pick this light sky blue Nina Ricci Resort 2015 gown with a shirred blouse. This is a simple gown that directly relates to Amanda's laid back sense of style. I could also see this gown being shortened to a cocktail dress if Amanda so deemed it worthy. A gold clutch and gold pumps would be the simple accessories that I would add for this gown. Finishing the look with a fresh face of simple makeup and a simple updo to showcase all the bodice detail would be the way to go to ensure that Amanda ends up on every best dressed list.
Naomi Watts has either made my heart skip a beat or made me want to hide my head in shame when she has taken to the red carpet this year. I am hoping that when she steps out for the TIFF premiere of her film "While We're Young" with Amanda Seyfried that Naomi makes my heart skip a beat. I would have that moment if she were to wear this stunning cream Altuzzara Resort 2015 draped gown. It looks as if the fabric that this gown is made in is very stiff and I think that means that it has to be impeccably tailored for Naomi so that it doesn't end up looking like a giant potato sack on Naomi. If she has this gown tailored and pairs it with a statement gold sandals and a gold clutch, sleek hair, and a red lip then I believe that Naomi would shut down the TIFF red carpet with a stunning ensemble.
