2016 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

A person I would love to see on the Vanity Fair Oscar Party red carpet is the ever beautiful Christina Ricci. A red carpet appearance by Christina is something that is far and few between but when she does they are always great red carpet moments. I would love to see Christina wearing this black Ashi Studio Spring 2016 Couture strapless high-low embroidered ball gown. I think that this is a high impact classic glam look that Christina would rock on the red carpet with ease. A black clutch, black strappy Christian Louboutin sandals, a chic updo, red lips, and a pair of dazzling emerald and diamond earrings would just punctuate this perfect red carpet ensemble.
Kate Bosworth is always a favorite of mine when she steps out on the red carpet. The pink Dolce & Gabbana gown she wore on the red carpet at the Golden Globes is something I will be remembering at the end of the year, that is unless something even more major comes around. Last month when Bertrand Guyon presented his Spring 2016 Couture collection for Schiaparelli Kate was perched ever so perfectly front row, undoubtedly scouting out potential looks for Oscar night. I believe that Kate would look absolutely stunning wearing this draped cherry printed gown from that collection would make for a perfect look for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Keep things very classic glam with a chic updo, red lip, silver pumps, a pair of diamond drop earrings, and a red Edie Parker clutch so that Kate has an absolutely stunning red carpet ensemble.
Natalie Portman usually steps out on the red carpet for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and I am hoping that will be the case come this years red carpet. The Miss Dior perfume spokesmodel will for sure be wearing Dior for the carpet and I would love to see her wear this blue Christian Dior Spring 2013 Couture strapless cocktail dress. Most will wear a gown on this red carpet, and Natalie normally does, but I think that this dress would make for just a glamorous a statement as a gown would. Styled with a pair of black sandals, a silver Dior clutch, a chic updo, and a pair of diamond drop earrings this would be one of my favorite red carpet looks from Natalie.
Selena Gomez is no stranger to movie awards show after parties having been to Golden Globes and Oscar parties many times in the past and I am hoping that the songstress will be out in her full glam style at the Vanity Fair party. While a gown is most likely what Selena would wear I would love for her to take on this sexy black Atelier Versace Spring 2016 Couture suit laced together with a handmade Swarovski crystal lace. We have been seeing Selena go for very sexy looks in her performances and music videos but still mostly goes for sweet looks on the red carpet and I am hoping that she will start giving us sexy looks on the red carpet too. This suit would do just that, give Selena a sizzling glamorous red carpet ensemble. A pair of black Christian Louboutin pumps, a black clutch, sexy waves, a pair of diamond cluster earrings, and a red lip would ensure that Selena gives me a major wow on the Vanity Fair red carpet.
I was very excited to read that Zoe Saldana is a chair of the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing party. Zoe has been one of my favorite red carpet ladies and I am excited to see what she will wear on the red carpet on Oscar night. I would love to see Zoe wearing this red and black Altuzarra Pre-Fall 2016 flapper dress. Zoe is a major movie star and one of the few that could get away with wearing this dress on the red carpet at the Elton John party where an evening gown is almost required. A pair of strappy black sandals, a black Edie Parker clutch, a wavy faux bob, and a pair of gold set diamond drop earrings would finish this look off perfectly for the red carpet.

You Better Werk: Kate Bosworth at New York Fashion Week: Fall 2016

Kate Bosworth has been making the rounds over the first three days of New York Fashion Week and doing so in such fine style. Her first appearance was at the Kate Spade New York Fall 2016 RTW presentation where Kate showed up wearing a head to toe black Kate Spade look which included a pair of cropped pants, a short sleeved sweater with a beaded peter pan collar, black clutch, and black suede loafers. I love how this relaxed chic looks makes an impact despite being a head to toe black look. Kate then attended the International Woolmark Prize runway show where she was perched front row wearing a hot off the runway Creatures of the Wind Fall 2016 RTW bold red ensemble which featured a geometric sweater and leather a-line skirt. It was I think the fastest runway to celebrity turnover time in the world and Kate looked absolutely beautiful in it. Yesterday Kate attended the first Rebecca Minkoff Direct-to-Consumer show, where every piece in the collection is now available to purchase, wearing a cute nude pink laced shift dress and thigh high black leather boots. This is probably my favorite look as it was really cold in NYC yesterday but Kate looks unfazed. Rounding out the quartet of looks is the Pre-Fall 2016 look that Kate wore while seated front row a the Altuzarra Fall 2016 RTW presentation. This is a moody modern look with a beautiful pailette embellished bodice and might be my favorite look of the four from Kate. I am hoping that she keeps up appearances during NYFW and continues to do so in high style like she has been.

Top 10 Looks at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards

I put together a video with all the 10 looks that I loved above all else on the red carpet. I was surprised by my non-love of Cate Blanchett and my inability to stop gushing over Jennifer Lopez (who wore the gown I picked for Cate Blanchett.) The Globes red carpet was pretty awesome and I have to say that I am now excited for awards season.

Best Dressed of September 2015

September was a crazy month on the red carpets we had plenty of premieres (major Oscar campaigns have started), fashion weeks, papal visits, and lots of product endorsements that went along with the Venice Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, and the Emmy Awards. I decided to take the Venice, Toronto, and Emmy Awards red carpets out of the running (they all got their own best dressed lists) so that all the rest of these women had a chance to earn a spot. Jessica Chastain is campaigning for an Oscar nomination for her role in "The Martian" and this stunning black Elie Saab Couture gown that she paired with the most amazing emerald and diamond statement earrings at the films gala premiere in London is the perfect way to start this campaign. There is something about a redhead in black with emerald earrings that just sings to me. Tell me when I would ever put a black dress at the top of a best dressed list? Surprisingly has happened a few times this year because these stars are doing them so well. Can anyone else remember Cate Blanchett in Margiela at the Oscars?
Solange Knowles made her rounds during New York Fashion Week. She was spotted on her way to the 3.1 Phillip Lim show wearing a hot off the runway Zimmermann Spring 2016 RTW white lace dress that she paired with the most awesome Schutz ‘Karlyanna’ cut-out boots and white plastic rim sunglasses. This is a perfect look for Solange. I love that she is not afraid to take fashion risks and that she does so many different styles on the red carpet and she works each one just as well as the next.

I have to give credit where credit is due to Dakota Johnson. I have not been a big fan of the actress on the red carpet since she first came around, but her white Balenciaga Resort 2016 strapless bell shaped cocktail dress at the "Black Mass" premiere in Boston was PERFECTION. I remember looking at Dakota in this ensemble and saying FINALLY a look worthy of a movie star. She knocked this look out of the red carpet ballpark styling it perfectly with that sleek hair, red lips, a beautiful Van Cleef & Arpels diamond necklace, and silver Bally sandals. There is not a single thing about this look that I would change, and that is something I have never said about one of Dakota's red carpet looks.

If you are an avid reader of this blog then you know that I LOVE Amal Clooney. I was sadly disappointed with her Christian Dior gown at the Golden Globe Awards but she has given so many other amazing looks this year that I am over that transgression. Last week she was spotted out on a date night with hubby George in New York City looking sexy, yet very chic, in green Versace Fall 2015 RTW that she paired with matching Jimmy Choo sandals. If I were a woman Amal would be one of my style icons and this look just shows why, she is not on a red carpet, she is not working, she is just out on a date with her husband and she is on fleek.
There is a love/hate relationship with Prada gowns on the red carpet. When Emily Blunt stepped out on the red carpet at the "Sicario" premiere in London I let out a yelp of elation as this red embellished custom Prada gown is perfection. Emily has had some amazing Prada moments on the red carpet but this has to top that list. She looks chic and elegant while being extremely modern at the same time.

Jennifer Hudson had her most beautiful look ever, in my opinion, when she took to the state at Madison Square Garden to perform "Hallelujah" for the Pope's mass in New York City. This custom blue Prabal Gurung gown and cape (gives off MAJOR Giambattista Valli Couture vibes) was a perfect look for such a demure occasion. I love when JHud gives us full glamour and that is exactly what she gave us with this look.

Kate Bosworth stepped out on the red carpet at the Atlanta premiere of "90 Minutes In Heaven" giving us 1950's socialite glamour. Her beautiful gold brocade Schiaparelli Fall 2015 Couture tea length gown gives off very vintage vibes and styled with a sleek low bun, orange lip, gold clutch, & Nicholas Kirkwood gold pumps all perfectly punctuated her beautiful ensemble.
Lady Gaga made shock waves wearing a simple black gown by her stylist Brandon Maxwell, whom presented his first runway collection during New York Fashion Week, for the Emmy Awards. Gaga also wore a gown from Maxwell's Spring 2016 RTW collection for the Fox Emmy Awards After-Party, but instead of the runways black version she oped for a white strapless gown with a voluminous shawl. It seems like her TV time is starting to make her more demure and sophisticated, but I love that this look still has that touch of signature Gaga drama.

Squeezing into this list at the last minute was Charlize Theron who stepped out to be a "The Power of an Educated Girl" panelist. Charlize wowed me by taking a rare step out at a public appearance not wearing Dior. The face of "J'Adore Dior" is almost exclusively dressed by the brand so I cherish the moments where she steps out of that box and gives us something else. This Erdem Resort 2016 black, white, & blue floral shift dress is beautiful and demure perfect for a panel that also included the First Lady of the United States. Her side part pixie, oxblood lip, & simple black Christian Louboutin pumps were the perfect way to style this look to ensure that she was event appropriate.

Finally there is Nicole Kidman who attended the OMEGA ‘Her Time’ Q&A session in Milan wearing a Giambattista Valli Fall 2015 RTW ensemble. As the face of OMEGA watches I have to say that Nicole did her part as brand ambasador quite well as this was just one of three amazing looks that she wore over the course of her duties. The victorian-esque ruffled organza and floral macrame blouse paired with a printed skirt and a pair of black Christian Louboutin sandals is the perfect look to wear for a Q&A session.

Overall August was a very very busy month for the red carpets and I had a hard time narrowing down my options just to 10. Head over to to the Facebook page to see all of the looks considered in putting this list together.

Best Dressed of August 2015

August was a real slow month for red carpets. Most months I have 50+ contenders for the 10 spots on the monthly Best Dressed list. This month I only had 30 women but they were still all worthy contenders. Sarah Jessica Parker worked the red carpet at the opening night of the Broadway show "Hamilton" in a stunning emerald green Elie Saab Fall 2015 Couture spaghetti strap ball gown. I have been waiting to see a drop dead beautiful red carpet gown from SJP on the red carpet and this defiantly did me disappoint. SJP styled this gown very simply with flowing waves and emerald green eye shadow. I definitely applaud this look and it will be one that I remember when it comes to the Best Dressed of the Year list. More after the jump....

Top 10 Looks from March 2015

They say that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Well in regards to fashion that was surely not the case. The red carpets were ablaze all month long and it was hard for me to choose just ten looks for me to feature. Lily James shedded her princess gowns and Disney inspired looks to work a sleek modern custom Balenciaga grey strapless gown with gold button details for the "Cinderella" premiere in London. This was more on an iconic look for me than the princess statement that she made a the films premiere in LA wearing Elie Saab Couture because it was an unexpected choice. This will definitely be on my mind when I am crafting my Best Dressed of the Year list.
Jessica Alba was spotted out and about running from meeting to meeting in New York City in early March looking impossibly chic. Jessica snatched up a peach head to toe ensemble from the Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2015 RTW runway collection that she paired with a Kenzo bag. I love that she took this head to toe runway look and owned it on the sidewalk runway. Christina Hendricks helped celebrate the finale of her hit series "Mad Men" ad the Black and Red Ball wearing a custom Zac Posen emerald gown with jacquard leopard spots on the hem. This gown also included a detachable ball skirt, that I was not a huge fan of. The red carpet didn't seem grand enough for a ball skirt, but the more streamlined silhouette featured here was perfection. The beginning of March ushered in Paris Fashion Week which had celebrity packed front rows. Hailee Steinfeld was the stand out of all the ladies who packed the Christian Dior Fall 2015 RTW presentation. I thought that her orange Christian Dior long sleeved dress, which she paired with Dior accessories including a white clutch, green knee high boots and stunning cat-eye sunglasses, was the perfect look for a front row. Hailee looked modern, youthful and incredibly chic taking her front row seat.
What would a best dressed list be without a Chastain appearance? Jessica Chastain became the third person, behind Sienna Miller and Anna Wintour, to be dressed in the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2015 RTW Collection. The houses first collection since the death of the namesake and the take over by Peter Copping. What I love about this look is that the black and white floral tapestry inspired long sleeve gown is perfection on the red headed beauty. This look evokes the 1960s to me and I could see the likes of Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn loving this gown. Simple hair and makeup were all that were needed to finish this look off perfectly for the Jameson Empire Awards. For the first ever amfAR Hong Kong Gala, Hong Kong film star Carina Lau wowed in a custom gown version of a cocktail dress presented in the Schiaparelli Spring 2015 Couture collection. I quickly developed a love affair with this collection and so far every look that has hit a red carpet from it has been utter perfection. The beaded necklace detail with hands clasping in the back made this an avant garde take on a very classic look. A look that I believe that Mademoiselle Schiaparelli would be proud of. The fight for breakout star of the year is going to be a tough one. Carmen Ejogo has been making the red carpet rounds since the premiere of her Oscar nominated film "Selma," and has really been coming into her own. I loved her black and white Balmain sequined window pane long sleeved mini dress that was worn to BET's "Black Girls Rock." What I loved about this look is that Carmen took this dress and went for full glamour with the styling. From the bouncy pinned back behind one ear curls, to the matte red lip and the black black sandals just made this look perfection.
Only Charlize Theron, and of course Angelina Jolie, could don a simple black dress on the red carpet and still end up on my Best Dressed of the Month list. For the Parisian premiere of her film "Dark Places," Charlize wore a stunning custom Christian Dior Couture black beaded strapless knee length dress which she paired with a pair of black Dior sandals, a black Dior satin clutch and Jessica McCormack diamond jewelry. What made this such a major statement was just the air about Charlize. She knows how to own a red carpet and own this one she did. Kerry Washington continued to be one of my favorite red carpet ladies wearing a black, yellow and maroon Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2015 mini dress for PALEYFEST LA presents "Scandal." I love how Kerry styled her look oping for complimentary yellow pumps, a nondescript black clutch, a berry lip and slicked back pulled up hair. All of these additions just made sure that this was a best dressed worth look. When I saw Kate Bosworth at the Fine Arts Museum San Francisco Mid-Winter gala in this red and white Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture strapless gown I let out a little cheer. I have been obsessed with this gown since it was first presented in January of last year and I am glad that Kate really did this gown justice. The gown itself is just so detailed all of the circular details are made up by hand place sequin details. Toussled locks, a red lip and a white Christian Dior clutch made this look all about the dress which, as the work of art that this gown is, should have been the case.

2014 AFI Fest: "Still Alice" Premiere Wish List

Julianne Moore is leading the pack at the current moment for the 2015 Oscar Race to take home the Best Actress trophy. Because of this I am expecting to see Julianne Moore at the AFI Fest premiere of "Still Alice" despite it being the day after the "Mockingjay Part 1" premiere in London. Julianne will be able to rest over the December holidays but first we need to get through the final push is 2014. For this premiere I picked this stunning ice blue Nina Ricci Spring 2015 RTW crushed silk pencil dress with an symmetrical bodice. I think that this is a very chic ladylike option for Julianne who I am sure we will see pushing boundaries for what 53 year old women should wear. I would modify this look slightly so that the skirt would hit right above Julianne's knees so that it would not make her look short and stumpy. A silver clutch, a pair of silver cage sandals, a slick parted tight bun, and a red lip would finish off this amazing red carpet ensemble.
At the "Still Alice" premiere during the Toronto International Film Festival Kate Bosworth delivered one of her best ever looks in head to toe red and while I do not think that this sugary pink Oscar de la Renta Spring 2015 RTW flared cocktail dress with white lapel style detail would even come close to that look I do think that it is event appropriate and would look stunning on Kate. Kate and Oscar had a close relationship, he custom designed her wedding gown and styled her bridal look, and I think that she will pay tribute to the late designer at some point on the red carpet. Accessorized with a white clutch and a pair of white Stuart Weitzman 'Nudist' sandals and finished off with a tight low bun and soft pink lip this look would do the late designer proud.

2014 Met Ball: Kate Bosworth, Lily Collins, Nina Dobrev, & Rita Ora Wish List

Since attending the Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture presentation back in January, Kate Bosworth has graced 4 red carpets where she could have rocked one of the looks but she has yet to pull from the collection. I am wondering if she is saving her Dior Couture moment for the 2014 'Charles James' themed Met Ball. This black and white Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture 1960's inspired cocktail ensemble would be a perfect look for this major red carpet. Most of the attendees will go for full length gowns, and only a few ladies daring to go short. Kate rocks these retro short looks so well and I am praying that she rocks this creation on the red carpet. A bold red clutch, a pair of black and silver Christian Louboutin crystal encrusted sandals, simple diamond studs, a bold red lip, and a sleek high bun will finish off this amazing ensemble for this red carpet.
Last year donning Houghton twice for the 'The Mortal Instruments' promotional tour, Lily Collins single-handedly put the New York based brand on the map. I was lucky enough to take in the Houghton Fall 2014 RTW collection taking to the runway back in February during New York Fashion Week. There were an abundance of looks that I would love to see Lily wear but the one that stood out most to me was this amazing cream silk floral jacquard gown with an elephant ear sleeve top in the same fabric layered over to make up a dramatic ensemble for the 2014 Met Ball. Lily isn't the tallest at 5'5", but she definitely knows how to hold her own in avant garde creations. A sleek up-do, a red lip, and gold sandals will make this the perfect red carpet look for the Met Ball.
Nina Dobrev always rocks the red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala and I am excited to see what the 'Charles James' themed red carpet will bring for her this year. She knows how to work the theme and give us a non-costumey look that is usually custom. While this black and green abstract line printed gown doesn't scream Charles James to me I do think that Nina would rock the fuck out of this gown on the red carpet. Hair worn in Hollywood waves over one shoulder, simple kohl rimmed eyes, a black Edie Parker clutch, and black Stuart Weitzman 'Nudist' sandals will finish off this look.
Rita Ora knows how to make a major statement on the red carpet and I think that after donning a few other looks from the Moschino Fall 2014 RTW collection, the first for the brand from friend Jeremy Scott, I am hoping that she brings the black and white 'Nutrition Facts' ball gown the same collection. This is going to make for an absolutely stunning red carpet moment that combines both the designs of Charles James and the craziness of Rita Ora. Her signature red lip will undoubtedly be in play, with a simple updo, and a pair of bold colored sandals will make sure that Rita is on the top of every best dressed list from this event.

Runway Report: Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture

The Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture collection has to be my favorite collection that Raf Simons has designed for the house. I feel like he finally was able to mesh his minimalistic ascetic to the classic styles of the Dior house. Each piece in this collection, no matter how simple the piece, was truly a piece of wearable art. I would beg each of you to take the time to watch the video of the runway to see all the shirred fabric, draped, and sequined details up close. Dior has been all over the red carpet map on the backs of anyone who can get their hands on it. Raf Simons has brought the luster and viability back into the house and has put it back on the must have map. By taking away the theatrics of the Galliano era Raf has really revived the Christian Dior house.
