Top 10 Looks From The 2016 Academy Awards

The Academy Awards took place in Hollywood last night and the stars showed up in droves to celebrate the best films and performances of the past year. My favorite look of the night came from the red carpet queen Cate Blanchett. Cate was nominated for Best Actress for her work in Carol and continued her tradition of wearing Armani Prive at every Oscars that she has been nominated for. Cate looked fantastic wearing a custom seafoam green Armani Prive gown which seemed so fantastical with its organza petals and feathers. With such a statement gown Cate kept her styling very chic with an elegant updo, nude lip, and Tiffany & Co. diamonds. This will be a look that I remember come time to create my Best Dressed of the Year list.
Lady Gaga was probably the one I was most intrigued to see what she would bring to the red carpet at the Academy Awards and she surely didn't disappoint. Gaga showed up in a white strapless jumpsuit with a detachable skirt custom made for her by friend, designer and stylist Brandon Maxwell inspired by his Fall 2016 RTW collection. Gaga has been a champion of Maxwell's since he launched his collection last September and always look absolutely stunning in his creations. I think only Gaga could get away with wearing red carpet lady pants on the Oscars red carpet. I would have loved to see Gaga wearing a statement diamond necklace but her old Hollywood styling was all on point. Gaga owned the Academy Awards red carpet.

Not many agreed with me but I LOVED Charlize Theron in Christian Dior Couture on the Academy Awards red carpet last night. Many people likened it to the black Dior gown she wore in 2014 and I had flashbacks to her Gucci gown back in 2004 but you know what they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it. This gown is a chic modern look with a lot of glamorous drama and Charlize rocked the simple style with ease down the red carpet. Finished with a statement Harry Winston necklace and a smokey eye and this will be a look one remembers for years.

Brie Larson was nominated for Best Actress for her work in Room at the Academy Awards last night, and won. She did so in fine style rocking a custom blue Gucci gown which took the boho spirit of the brand and amped up the glamour. I love the large vertical ruffles on the skirt, the crystal embellished belt, the slicked back hair, the simple jewels, and the red lip. All of the elements of this look just came together perfectly to ensure that Brie had a major moment on the Oscars red carpet.
Naomi Watts attended the 2016 Academy Awards as the plus on of Liev Schreiber, who was among the presenters last night, and made one of my dreams come true. Last July when this Armani Prive Fall 2015 Couture gown walked the runway in Paris I wanted to see Naomi in this gown and it featured on my wish list for her Toronto Film Fest appearance. So I let out a bit of a squeal when I saw that Naomi had chosen this gown for the Oscars red carpet. The statement necklace, black clutch, wavy bob, and red lip all just made this look perfect for the red carpet.

I think my jaw dropped when I saw Saoirse Ronan step out on the Academy Awards red carpet last night. I never would have pictured Saoirse wearing this gown until I saw it. I figured Saoirse was going to wear a British brand on the red carpet so when I saw this emerald Calvin Klein sequined gown with velvet straps I was shocked. Saoirse wanted to bring modern glam to the red carpet bu still hold her native Ireland close to her heart so she wanted to wear green. It was perfection.

Daisy Ridley showed us why she is a fashion force on the Oscars red carpet. Its pretty well know that a gown is the Academy Awards requisite and usually one that has a dramatic train or a full skirt. Daisy shunned the rules and wore a tea length Chanel Spring 2016 Couture embellished top and skirt. I was really shocked that Daisy wore this look and then I was surprised by just how much I loved it. It was a big risk for Daisy and it really paid off.
Julianne Moore was amazing on the Oscars red carpet. While I really wanted to see Rooney Mara wearing this Chanel Spring 2016 Couture gown, I can not deny how gorgeous Julianne is. This is a different look for Julianne, we usually see her wearing very fitted or mermaid silhouettes so it was nice to see a more princessy look from her. This black lace gown with crystal embellishments made for such a classic look and Julianne styled it perfectly.

Olivia Munn walked the Academy Awards red carpet wearing an orange Stella McCartney gown with a sleek asymmetrical caped neckline. Olivia was the only one on the Oscars  red carpet that wore orange and it was a risk that totally paid off. What I think dropped Olivia down this list is when she was on the stage her matching orange lip ended up looking like a construction workers vest. She gave us a modern glam look and I still love it.

I knew I was going to enjoy seeing Chrissy Teigan on the Oscars red carpet but she blew away my expectations wearing a hot off the runaway Marchesa Fall 2016 RTW gown. There were a lot of Marchesa gowns on the red carpet last night but this above all else was my favorite. The illusion tulle gown with red floral embroidery was a daring choice for the pregnant model to make on the red carpet but she make it work and in such a glamorous way.

You Better Werk: Cate Blanchett in Gucci at the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards

Cate Blanchett jumped on the boho bandwagon yesterday on the blue carpet at the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards wearing a Gucci Spring 2016 RTW embroidered gown with a nude underlay. I love how this gown is all about the standout colors of the all over embroidery. Cate usually gives us high glamour so it was nice to see a more relaxed side of the red carpet queen. It was actually a different Gucci look from Cate that turned my dislike of the new direction of Gucci and she continues to do the brand well on the red carpet.
What really made the look for me were the few photographs where Cate put on her colorful Gucci sunglasses. I am usually not a fan of Sunglasses on the red carpet but somehow Cate makes me adore this look even more. Since she went so natural with blow dried waves, fresh faced makeup, and jewelry-less I think that the sunglasses just added a punctuation to the relaxed nature of this look. Almost everything that Cate touches turns into red carpet gold. While I love boho Cate I am expecting her to be back on the high glam train at the Academy Awards tonight.

#Oscars 2016: Surpise Red Carpet Wish List Round-Up

Andra Day is becoming quite the star. After performing at the Grammy Awards and sitting front row at the Marc Jacobs Fall 2016 Presentation during New York Fashion Week. It was Friday when Andra was announced as one of the powerhouse performers for the post Oscars Governors Ball. After sitting front row at Marc I would not be surprised to see Andra wearing a custom gown by the designer for the Oscars red carpet (or maybe one of the unworn looks from Spring 2016) but I would really love to see her wearing this burgundy Georges Hobeika Fall 2014 Couture gown which features a portrait neckline, all over embroidery, and a mermaid silhouette. I think that this is a dramatic look (some might think it's a little too much for someone only attending the Oscars to perform at the after-party) and Andra would be able to rock it. Andra has this rockabilly glamour thing going on and I think that this would be an amazing look. Since Andra usually covers up there is a look from the same Georges Hobeika collection that featured a dramatic cape that could make for an even more dramatic red carpet look draped over her shoulders. I am sure that Andra will style her hair into her signature rockabilly style (though I would trade her signature red hairband for a gold one); add a burgundy lip, winged eyeliner, a gold clutch, a pair of gold pumps, and diamond cluster earrings to ensure that Andra has the most amazing red carpet look for her first Oscars.
I do not know is Bella Hadid will take the journey from Milan, where she has been for Milan Fashion Week, to LA for the Oscars tonight. Bella is dating Best Original Song nominee The Weekend, and was by his side at the Grammy Awards so I would imagine she will be with him tonight at the Oscars. Bella has been giving some dark brooding looks on the red carpet lately and I gotta say she is making black look anything but basic. I do believe that a black gown would be the best choice for Bella for tonight as she is a model who would be attending a movie event where her only connection is her boyfriend. It isn't her night but I can still see her looking fantastic. I would love to see Bella wearing this black Atelier Versace Spring 2015 Couture asymmetric gown which features crystal netting detailing. I think that this Versace look is a perfect look for a model plus one to wear on the Oscars red carpet as it is sexy but still elegant and beautiful enough to hold court with all of the nominated and presenting actresses.
My final wish is for Naomi Watts who will undoubtedly be on the arm of her beau, and member of the Spotlight, ensemble Liev Schreiber who is presenting tonight. I decided to go the Gucci route for Naomi for tonight's red carpet. I was absolutely enamored by the Gucci Fall 2016 RTW collection and I am praying to see the collection on the red carpet tonight. I think that Naomi would look amazing on the red carpet wearing this red strapless Gucci Fall 2016 RTW gown which has an amazing baroque pattern. While I just went on and on about Bella wearing a simple gown as to not steal the spotlight from the nominees and presenters but if anyone can do it and still play the perfect plus one it would be Naomi. A chic updo, a red clutch, black sandals, and diamond drop earrings would ensure that this is an amazing look for Naomi on the Oscars red carpet.

#SpiritAwards 2016: Freida Pinto in Bibhu Mohapatra

Freida Pinto attended the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards yesterday in Santa Monica, California as one of the nights many presenters. Freida looked absolutely amazing in a Bibhu Mohapatra dress which featured an asymmetric bodice and a fitted pencil skirt. I love that there was a lot of visual interest in this look, which kept it from being boring without being too busy, the floral panel on the blouse, the clutch, and the black, yellow, and silver pointed toe pumps. On paper all of these elements sound like they would never make a great look, but Freida makes it all work.

#BestDressed: Brie Larson in Chanel at the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards

Brie Larson made her return to the red carpet last night, after being MIA at all the major events between the SAG Awards and now, and she did so in fine style. Brie wore an amazing Chanel Spring 2016 RTW top and skirt for her red carpet appearance at the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards yesterday. I love that Brie's stylist, Cristina Ehrlich, took the matching top and skirt from two looks from the runway and paired them together for Brie. I don't think I would have loved this look as much I do. We see a lot of the more casual side of glamour on the red carpet at the Spirit Awards and this just added a ladylike touch to a red carpet full of bohemian looks. What really drew me to this look was how the pattern was created of red, white, & blue strips and silver beading, you can see all the detail in an Instagram posted by Brie's stylist. Keeping the look very ladylike Brie added a very chic updo, a red lip, dainty diamond cluster earrings and bracelets by Piaget, and a pair of silver Casadei sandals. Brie continued to sweep awards season taking home the Spirit Award for Best Leading Actress, will she do the same tonight? And more importantly what will she wear?

Bohemian Goddess: Dree Hemingway in Chloe at the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards

Dree Hemingway continues to be the cool girl everyone wishes to be like on the red carpet. Last night Dree worked the red carpet at the Film Independent Spirit Awards wearing a flowing Chloe Spring 2016 RTW gown. Not many would be able to make this a standout red carpet look, but Dree makes this such an effortless glam look. This look was perfect for the Film Independent Spirit Awards as it is a more laid back glamorous red carpet. This look was finished perfectly with sun kissed makeup, pulled back hair, and a silver Alexander McQueen union jack clutch.

You Better Werk!: Elizabeth Banks in Elie Saab at the Vanity Fair and Stuart Weitzman Luncheon Celebrating Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks attended a luncheon thrown by Vanity Fair and Stuart Weitzman in Los Angeles yesterday and she did so in fine style. Elizabeth worked a cloud blue Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2016 jumpsuit rendered in lace and double georgette and features a bi-level style with a jewel neckline and a fluid pant. There is a small list of women who I can honestly say could pull this off and Elizabeth does so in such amazing style. A matching clutch, hidden nude pumps, fresh faced makeup, and hair pulled back just made this look sing on the red carpet at this Vanity Fair luncheon.

#Oscars 2016: Final Ladies Red Carpet Wish List Round-Up

Will we see Angelina Jolie on Oscar night? I think that is the question that is on almost every red carpet correspondents mind. Brad Pitt is nominated as a producer of Best Picture nominee The Big Short, so I would love to see her on the red carpet supporting him. The moment I saw this Atelier Versace Spring 2016 Couture gown take to the runway back in January it has been on my mind for Angelina and I wanted to make a post about it before a model gets their hands on it for one of the Oscar parties, Met Ball, or the Cannes Film Festival. I think that this regal, yet still sexy, look is something that Angie would be immediately drawn to. I would imagine that Angelina would have the skirt lined as I don't see her rocking the naked dress trend. Finish the look with a pair of diamond drop earrings, old Hollywood waves, a red lip, and a pair of gold pumps and Angie would have a major red carpet moment as Brad's plus one at the Oscars.
Chrissy Teigan is always fabulous on the red carpet so I am really excited to see what she will rock on the red carpet Sunday night at the Academy Awards. Thus far all of Chrissy's maternity looks on the red carpet have been very fitted over her bump. I would love to see her switch that up and wear something floaty and ethereal like this mint Georges Hobeika Spring 2016 Couture gown which features a beaded blouse, a chiffon skirt with a dramatic train, and a sky high thigh split. Last year Chrissy also wore a gown with a sexy split and gave us a lot of Angelina leg but I would hope to see the expectant mother just flash a little leg. I think a little goes a long way. A chic updo, light pink lip, mint Marchesa jeweled clutch, a simple pair of gold sandals, and diamond drop earrings will ensure that Chrissy has a beautiful red carpet moment.
Jennifer Garner is one of the seasoned celebrity presenters for Sunday nights Academy Awards. I have failed to get excited about one of Jennifer's red carpet looks since her separation from Ben Affleck and I am very intrigued to see what she will show up wearing. I would love to see Jennifer show up on the red carpet at the Oscars wearing this sparking purple Carolina Herrera Fall 2016 RTW sleeveless gown. I think that this rich purple color would look absolutely amazing on Jennifer, who tends to stick to black on the red carpet. I think that as a presenter this gown is perfect look as not to take away from the nights nominees. A purple clutch, a pair of black pumps, a chic updo, and diamond cluster earrings will ensure that Jennifer returns to her full red carpet potential.
From an Oscars veteran to the new girl on the scene. Priyanka Chopra burst onto the Hollywood scene last year after taking a role on the ABC series Quantico, after being a huge star in Bollywood. Now Priyanka is currently filming her first American blockbuster with the Baywatch reboot. For the Oscars on Sunday night I would love to see Priyanka take to the red carpet wearing this blue Elie Saab Spring 2016 Couture embroidered sari inspired gown on the red carpet. Priyanka's first major awards show red carpet ensemble at the SAG Awards came across more like a pageant ensemble than a Hollywood red carpet moment and I am hoping she has learned from that. While I would love to see Priyanka wearing this Elie Saab Couture gown I am afraid that it appropriates her Indian heritage and that would make her shy away from wearing it, but I think that it meshes her heritage and Hollywood perfectly for the Oscars red carpet. A sleek bun, red lip, silver clutch, a pair of silver sandals, and diamond drop earrings would ensure that Priyanka holds her own against some of the most seasoned glamizons on the Oscars red carpet.
Rounding out the ladies wishes for the 2016 Academy Awards on Sunday night is Sofia Vergara. While Sofia is almost always spotted at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party this is the first time that the Colombian actress will step foot on the Oscars red carpet. When it comes to Sofia's style it is usually very predictable, and while I am hoping we see something a little different, I picked a gown that falls right into her wheelhouse. I picked this metallic J. Mendel Fall 2016 RTW strapless draped peplum column gown with a sexy split which is in a color that is almost a chameleon which can go silver, grey black, or gold. While I hope for something dramatic and custom made from Marchesa, Vera Wang, or Roberto Cavalli I do think that Sofia would look beautiful in this gown. A pair of black peep toe pumps, a black & gold Edie Parker clutch, pin straight locks, and a smokey eye would ensure that Sofia has a beautiful red carpet moment for her first Oscars.

Sidewalk Style: Blake Lively in New York City in Michael Kors

Last week after attending the Michael Kors Fall 2016 Presentation during New York Fashion Week, Blake Lively was spotted out and about running errands. Blake braved temperatures that hovered around freezing in this amazing red Michael Kors Spring 2016 RTW floral applique dress. If I didn't know that this was last I would have figured that this was from the early fall, when she wouldn't have been seen as crazy to have worn this. Blake looked breezy and summery in the midst of winter and did so without looking one bit cold (as I am sure she had to be freezing.) Paired with a chain strap Chanel 'Boy' bag, silver studded Christian Louboutin Follies Spikes 120mm black pointed toe pumps, and a killer pair of aviator sunglasses made this look a perfect sidewalk style look.

Performance Perfection: Adele in Valentino at the 2016 BRIT Awards

Adele has taken a new lease on her fashion in 2016 and I am LOVING it. Adele is showing women with curves that you just need to embrace them and F**K the haters because if you feel beautiful who cares what others say. Last night Adele wore an absolutely AMAZING Valentino Pre-Fall 2016 sequined gown with a Native American inspired print. I love that when I first saw this dress I picked for Cate Blanchett where the dress would have hung off her body like it did on the model in the lookbook, but I much prefer it fitting to Adele's curves. I have been loving what Adele has been bringing to the red carpet and the stage and I really hope that she continues to show off her fashionable taste and making amazing red carpet moment.

#Oscars 2016: Presenter Wish List Part 2

I think that at the Academy Awards on Sunday night that one of the stars that I am most excited to see out on the red carpet is newbie Daisy Ridley. Daisy has been killing it on the red carpet since bursting onto the scene with the promo tour for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and killing every single one of her looks from the most coveted designers. Daisy can have her pick of designers but Sunday for the main show I would most love to see her in Giambattista Valli. For her first Oscars I would love Daisy to show up with a princess moment and I think that this royal blue and white Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 Couture floral embroidered peplum ball gown. While Daisy could have a custom look or anything off of a current runway but I think that this gown needs a red carpet moment and I think it would be the perfect red carpet moment for Daisy at her first Oscars. Complete the look with a chic updo, light pink lip, diamond and sapphire cluster earrings, a diamond bracelet and a pair of blue sandals to just ensure that Daisy lets this gown do all the talking on the red carpet.
Julianne Moore won the Best Leading Actress trophy at the Academy Awards last year and will be returning to the Oscars stage Sunday as a presenter. Julianne has some of the best red carpet style and I am really hoping that she will blow me away on Sunday. I would love to see Julianne show off her sexier side by wearing this wine Valentino Spring 2016 Couture pleated velvet gown which featuring a daring plunging neckline. While the deep neck is not something that Julianne usually wears on the red carpet I know that she is one that could make this gown come alive on the Oscars red carpet. Julianne has such a way with clothes that she almost always excites (she was last years red carpet diva after all). I think that the neckline makes takes this classic style gown into a more modern zone. The styling of this look is key, while most would take this open neck as an opportunity to rock a statement necklace I don't think that is what Julianne should do. All that is needed to finish off this look is a chic updo, a nude lip, diamond cluster earrings, a gold clutch, and a pair of gold sandals.
Olivia Munn hosted the 2016 Academy Scientific and Technical Awards earlier this month and Sunday will be on hand to report about the festivities during the Academy Awards telecast on Sunday night. After her hosting duties Olivia was spotted front row at the Michael Kors Fall 2016 Presentation during New York Fashion Week. I was immediately drawn to this silver sequined cocktail dress with car wash pleats from the collection. My first thoughts on this dress was not how beautiful of a cocktail look it is but "WOW that would make an amazing Oscars gown." So I started to think who could wear it and when I saw Olivia was front row I decided that it would be a perfect fit. Add a bold red lip, wavy updo, a silver box clutch, a pair of silver sandals, and diamond cluster earrings to this modified gown and I think Olivia will have a major Oscars red carpet moment.
Patricia Arquette, who's returning to the Oscars stage after winning Best Supporting Actress last year, usually shows up on the red carpet wearing looks that aren't special enough for the event that she is attending. Sunday night I would love to see Patricia walk the Academy Awards red carpet wearing this black and blue Elizabeth Kennedy Fall 2016 RTW gown which features an off the shoulder neckline, short sleeves, a fitted bodice, a column skirt, and a long cape-like train at the back. I think that this gown is special enough to make a glamorous statement for Patricia on the most glamorous night in Hollywood. We got our first taste of Elizabeth Kennedy on the red carpet when she dressed Laverne Cox and Maura Tierney on the Golden Globes red carpet. Since then she has presented her Fall 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week and I can honestly say that I can see this being a designer to watch. I can pretty much bet that what ever Patricia wears she will have a clutch that is just a tad to large, a pair of black pumps, and an unkempt updo. Not exactly how I would style this look. I think that a chic tight bun, red lip, a small sparkling black minaudiere, black peep toe pumps, and a pair of simple diamond drop earrings would ensure that Patrica has her best red carpet look ever, but really do you think she cares about what people think of her on the red carpet? I don't.
Usually I am begging for Tina Fey to step away from the black and into bold colors, and I applaud her blood orange Prabal Gurung gown from the SAG Awards, but for her Academy Awards presenter duties on Sunday I went right back to two things she loves: black & lace. I picked this black beaded lace Marchesa Pre-Fall 2016 gown which features a column silhouette with a scalloped square neckline, a fitted bodice, and tiered ruffles along the skirt. I think that this classic gown would look phenomenal on Tina and give I also think that the silhouette is going to elongate her tiny frame making her appear much taller than she actually is. Keeping the styling in tune with the gown I would add a chic vintage inspired updo, pink lip, diamond cluster earrings, swap the lookbooks black clutch for a gold embellished Marchesa clutch, and finish with a simple pair of black Christian Louboutin peep toe pumps to ensure that Tina has a very glamorous moment on the Oscars red carpet.

#Oscars 2016: Presenter Wish List Part 1

Charlize Theron is one of Sunday nights confirmed presenters. I am very excited to see what the statuesque beauty will wear on the Oscars red carpet. Charlize will for sure be in Dior, like Jennifer Lawrence Charlize is a face of the brand. Last year Charlize wore some amazing custom Dior Couture looks on the red carpet and I bet that continues Sunday. I would love to see Charlize in some color, like amethyst purple or bright lipstick red, with a very dramatic train as her custom look from Christian Dior. If she were to wear a runway look from the brand (although I think that is very unlikely) I think that this white lace sleeveless gown from the Fall 2014 Couture collection would make for a beautiful red carpet moment. Maybe Charlize would wear this gown for an after party, though the Zac Posen I picked would be just as fabulous.
Emily Bunt recently announced that she is pregnant with her second child with John Krasinski so I am intrigued to see what she will wear on the red carpet at the Academy Awards. I would love to see Emily rocking the red carpet in this blue Armani Prive Spring 2014 Couture fully embellished gown on the red carpet. I think that this gown would drape so elegantly over Emily's burgeoning baby bump. I don't believe that Emily has a very large bump so this gown would wither conceal it or showcase it, if she were to add a waistband. I personally think that adding a waistband would make for a great red carpet moment on Emily. Keeping the styling really chic with a classic updo, smokey eye, silver clutch, a pair of silver sandals, and diamond cluster earrings would ensure that Emily showcases amazing maternity style on the Oscars red carpet.
I am super excited that Kerry Washington is boycotting the Oscars Boycott because of #OscarsSoWhite and presenting at the show on Sunday night. Kerry is always one of my favorite ladies to see on the red carpet as she has some of the most amazing red carpet style and an arsenal of designer friends that make amazing clothes for her. When I watched the Prabal Gurung Fall 2016 RTW show and this ivory cold shoulder embellished gown came down the runway I gasped and said that needs to be on the Oscars red carpet. Prabal has not had a moment on the Oscars red carpet yet and I think that he and Kerry need to change that by working this gown to its full potential on the red carpet. I think that this gown is something that while minimal can be very high impact. I think that a gold clutch, a pair of gold sandals, chic updo, and a nude lip would finish this look perfectly to give Prabal an amazing Oscars red carpet moment.
Margot Robbie has been a rising fashion star since she burst onto the scene when The Wolf of Wall Street came out 2 years ago. Margot has been up and down with her red carpet style and I am hoping she brings high glamour to the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. It is always interesting to see who gets to wear some of the coveted collections first on the red carpet and everyone is taking bets on who will get their hands on the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2016 RTW collection first. I would love to see Margot step out on the Oscars red carpet wearing this amazing gold and black Oscar de la Renta Fall 2016 RTW toile du Jouey ribbon jacquard fit and flare gown with a sequined strapless bodice. After back to back Oscars wearing black Saint Laurent gowns I am hoping that Margot delivers something different and I think that this is a glam moment to happen on the Oscars red carpet. A chic updo, red lip, gold clutch, black pumps, and a pair of dazzling diamond earrings would ensure that Margot kills the Oscars red carpet.
I have a feeling that a lot of you are looking at your screens a little lopsided right now looking at my wish for Reese Witherspoon to wear on the red carpet at the Oscars. Last year Reese gave us a modern version of old Hollywood in a black and white custom Tom Ford gown and I am hoping this year that Reese gives us a totally modern look. I loved this bubble gum pink and chocolate brown BOSS Fall 206 RTW dress on the runway and I could totally picture creative director Jason Wu taking this dress and turning it into an a-line gown for Reese on the red carpet. I think that this could be a great high glam modern look for Reese to wear on the red carpet, and a colorful one at that. Reese usually doesn't wear a whole lot of color on the red carpet and I am really hoping that she embraces color for the Oscars red carpet.

When When Bad Dresses Happen To Good People: Cate Blanchett in Atelier Versace at the 2016 Costume Designers Guild Awards

Cate Blanchett attended the 2016 Costume Designers Guild Awards last night and I have to say oh how the mighty fall. After a major red carpet display at the BAFTA Awards in an amazing Alexander McQueen gown which topped my Best Dressed list, Cate fell wearing a black Atelier Versace chainmail gown on the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet. I was expecting something great from Cate as she was receiving an award for wearing clothes so well. Her gown seemed a size to small as her hips appeared wider than they actually are and there was skin rolls popping out of the arm holes of the gown. This is the second custom Atelier Versace gown that has failed recently and I am having some immense fears that it will continue on the Oscars red carpet on Sunday. The lackluster hair and makeup only further let this look down. The only saving grace of this look was the Tiffany & Co. bib necklaces which was made of more than 3,000 diamonds totaling more that 200 carats which was designed to evoke the patterns left on the sand by waves. We are 4 days out from the Oscars and I am hoping Cate, at Versace, get better with their red carpet outings.

#Oscars 2016: Nominees Wish List Part 2

Brie Larson is expected to be the golden girl of the Academy Awards on Sunday night as she is expected to take home the Best Leading Actress trophy thanks to her performance in Room. It is almost a tradition that anyone who wins the Oscar for Best Leading Actress takes to the red carpet wearing a gold tone gown. I would love to see Brie rocking the Oscars red carpet wearing this amazing gold Elie Saab Fall 2015 Couture spaghetti strap, scoop neck, fully embroidered ball gown. I think that this is the look that an Oscar winner should wear on the red carpet. Brie has shown her red carpet range and I can picture her picking up custom gowns from Versace, Calvin Klein or Rodarte as well. She really is a red carpet chameleon. This gown would be finished off perfectly with a gold clutch, chic updo, fresh faced makeup, a pair of gold pumps, and diamond drop earrings.
I don't know much about Charlotte Rampling but she was front row at the Armani Prive Spring 2016 Couture show and is nominated for Best Leading Actress for her film 45 Years. I do believe that Cate Blanchett is going to be the nominated actress on the red carpet at the Academy Awards. I personally would love to see Charlotte on the Oscars red carpet with this red Reem Acra Fall 2016 RTW long sleeved gown. At 70 Charlotte is thus years oldest actress that is confirmed to hit the red carpet and I think that this would be a gorgeous loo for Charlotte to wear, with the blouse lined of course. A red Rauwolf clutch, a pair of red satin pumps, and diamond cluster earrings would ensure that Charlotte owns the red carpet like Jane Fonda or Helen Mirren do.
I, until yesterday, had no idea that Olivia Wilde was even nominated for an Academy Award. Olivia is an executive producer of the nominated short documentary Body Team 12, and is expected to bring home one of those coveted gold men. I would love to see Olivia take to the red carpet at the Oscars wearing this amazing liquid gold Ralph Lauren Fall 2016 RTW one shouldered gown. If anyone could take this gown and make it a red carpet statement it would be Olivia, who has gone from an Oscars guest to nominee and I am excited to see what she is going to wear Sunday night. I think that Olivia would be a modern glam goddess. A gold clutch, a pair of gold sandals, a chic updo, and a pair of killer vintage Van Cleef & Arpels yellow gold set diamond earrings would ensure that Olivia has a major moment on the Oscars red carpet.
What to expect from Rooney Mara on the red carpet at the Oscars on Sunday night? I bet she wears something black, nude, cream, or white by Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, or Valentino. I think I will be quite bored by Rooney's choice but I honestly think that if she chose this Chanel Spring 2016 Couture lace, crystal embellished gown that Rooney would have an amazing red carpet moment. I would love to see Rooney style her hair into a chic updo add a bold red lip, a black clutch, a pair of black sandals, and a pair of Chanel Fine Jewelry diamond drop earrings to just finish this look off with such chic perfection that I would be forced to rank Rooney amongst my best dressed.

Finishing off my wishes for the 2016 Academy Awards nominees is Best Leading Actress nominee Saoirse Ronan. I have rifled around all the recent and archived collections trying to pick a runway look that I would LOVE to see Saoirse wearing on the red carpet and I just haven't found anything that I love. I think there are a few possibilities a custom Valentino, Proenza Schouler, or Rodarte gown or Saoirse can work a custom gown by a British brand like Alexander McQueen, Erdem, Burberry, or Roksanda or she will completely disappoint me. I think that this navy Alexis Mabille Spring 2016 Couture strapless column gown with a black lace overlay would look pretty on Saoirse but I am not sure it is Oscars red carpet worthy (on someone like Naomi Watts, Zoe Saldana, or Keira Knightley it would.) I am kinda figuring that Saoirse will end up walking the red carpet in Burberry but I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens on Sunday night.

#Oscars 2016: Nominees Wish List Part 1

Here we go! We are now in the home stretch before the Academy Awards on Sunday night and after a week of Oscar party wishes we are finally at my wishes for the main telecast. Kicking off my nominee wishes is Alicia Vikander who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl. Alicia, who is my favorite to take home the little gold man Sunday night, will most likely work the red carpet wearing a custom Louis Vuitton gown, and changing into another brand for the after-parties. Despite knowing that she will wear a custom LV gown I am still wishing for Alicia to wear this peach Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture gown with a column silhouette and a fully embroidered cap sleeve gown. I still can't believe that this gown hasn't been worn on the red carpet yet and I think it would look absolutely lovely on Alicia. This gown would make for a chic and glam red carpet moment. A chic braided updo, fresh faced makeup, a gold Louis Vuitton clutch, gold Christian Louboutin sandals, and a pair of simple diamond drop earrings would ensure that Alicia would look amazing on the Oscars red carpet.
Cate Blanchett started awards season a little rocky but recently she has been knocking it out of the park again. On Oscar night I would love to see Cate, who is nominated for Best Leading Actress for Carol, wearing this lilac Armani Prive Spring 2016 Couture one shoulder gown which features a beautiful hand painted floral print. For every Academy Awards where she has been nominated Cate has turned out in Armani Prive so I believe that is a pretty safe bet she will wear the brand again on Sunday night. I think that this gown is a chic look is an elegant look that I think Cate would look like grace personified on the Oscars red carpet. It has been quite a while since Cate has worn this color on the red carpet and I think that she looks phenomenal it it. Finish this look with very elegant styling including a chic updo, diamond drop earrings, a red lip, silver clutch, a diamond bracelet, and a pair of silver pumps to ensure that Cate kills the red carpet at the Oscars.
We all know Jennifer Lawrence is contractually obligated to wear Christian Dior on the Academy Awards on Sunday night and many of you are probably a little surprised that the gown I picked it what I picked. Well let me explain. I would love to see the premieres at the Christian Dior atelier take this dove grey Christian Dior Spring 2016 Couture asymmetrical neckline embellished tea length gown and turn it into a floor length ball gown with a bit of a train. I think that this would mix the classic Dior glamour ad Jennifer's more sporty style. Oh and yes I want her to ditch the black undershirt. Finish the look with a chic updo, a pink lip, silver Dior clutch, and a pair silver pumps and JLaw will for sure have one of her best ever Oscars red carpet moments.
Kate Winslet is probably the star that I get the most snooze-worthy red carpet moments on the red carpet. I always have a hard time picking a gown for Kate to wear on the red carpet as I am always conflicted as to pick something that she will definitely wear and what I would love to see her wearing. For Sunday nights awards I would like to see the Best Supporting Actress nominee wearing this Ralph & Russo Fall 2015 Couture draped one shoulder gown on the red carpet. I think that this gown would make for a major red carpet moment. I would change the color of this gown to a bold royal blue as I am not the biggest fan of the army green for Kate, but he silhouette is perfect. I would love to see Kate flash a little bit of leg with the sexy, yet demure, split (I don't picture Kate pulling an Angelina with that split.) A pair of silver sandals, a silver embellished clutch, a chic updo, diamond drop earrings, and a bold red lip would finish off this look with such perfection that I could potentially see Kate making my Best Dressed list.
Lady Gaga is nominated for Best Original Song for 'Till It Happens To You" from The Hunting Ground at the Academy Awards on Sunday and I am crazy excited to see what she will be wearing. I have three looks for her to wear over the course of the Oscars telecast. Starting on the red carpet I would love to see Gaga exercise her glamorous side wearing this black Marchesa Fall 2016 RTW gown which features a nude underlay and wine colored floral embroidery. I think that this is a different type of dramatic but glamorous look that Gaga hasn't worn before but I think is perfect for the Academy Awards red carpet. For her first costume change I would love to see gaga wearing this black Brandon Maxwell Fall 2016 RTW sculpted bodice tuxedo jumpsuit for her performance of her nominated song. The song is such a raw real story that I don't see Gaga going over the top and I think that this chic black look would make for a perfect performance moment for her. After her performance  would love to see Gaga change into this hot off the runway (it literally walked yesterday in London) Alexander McQueen Fall 2016 RTW fully embellished gown and cape. Gaga is almost guaranteed the win Sunday and I think that this would make for a perfect night at the Oscars. Factor in the white Stephane Rolland Couture jumpsuit that I picked for Gaga to wear for the Vanity Fair Party after and this will make for an amazing night of Gaga fashion.
Rounding out today's nominee wishes is Rachel McAdams, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress thanks to Spotlight. Rachel has worn one Lanvin and two Elie Saab gowns over the course of this awards season and she keeps getting better. I am hoping that Rachel delivers her best red carpet moment of the season on Sunday night. I would love to see Rachel wearing this strapless sage Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Couture fully embroidered gown. I think that this gown is a perfect color for Rachel (shes worn these smokey pastels before and blown me away) and the dramatic silhouette would just add to the perfectness of this look for the Oscars red carpet. I would finish the look with a silver clutch, a pair of silver sandals, chic updo, diamond drop earrings, and a pink lip would ensure that Rachel has the most glamorous red carpet moment.

2016 Costume Designers Guild Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Tuesday night are the last of the guild awards before the Oscars next Sunday night, the Costume Designers Guild Awards. I am excited to see who will be out on the CDG Awards red carpet as all of Hollywood is going to be out in LA for all of the Oscar week festivities. I hope Alicia Vikander is on the red carpet as the costume designers for her films The Danish Girl and Ex Machina are nominated. Alicia has been having a wonderful year of the red carpet as a Louis Vuitton ambassador, but I am hoping that she will dazzle us in something not LV on the red carpet since she is sure to wear the brand on Oscar night. I would love to see Alicia on the red carpet at the Costume Designers Guild Awards wearing this amazing silver Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Spring 2016 Couture beaded fringe cocktail dress. This is something that is a little out of Alicia's wheelhouse but yet still chic and elegant. I would not take this look into full costume territory with 20s styling. I would have Alicia style her hair into old Hollywood waves over one shoulder and add a killer pair of silver pumps to ensure that the dress is the statement of this look.
Cate Blanchett is going to be at the Costume Designers Guild Awards as she is the recipient of this years LACOSTE Spotlight Award. Cate is a dream to dress for Sandy Powell, and any costume designer she comes into contact with, and is being honored for wearing clothes so well. I would love to see Cate, who was back on top form in Alexander McQueen on BAFTA night, wearing this brown and teal Valentino Spring 2016 Couture gold embroidered velvet gown with side cutouts. This gown has the potential to look like old curtains but I think that Cate's grace and elegance would make this a regal red carpet moment. While side cutouts might not be her thing to wear on the red carpet I think that in this case that Cate would maintain her regal style and elegance. A gold clutch, chic updo, glamorous fresh faced makeup, diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of gold sandals would ensure that Cat stands tall and regal on the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet.
Daisy Ridley has been a killer force on the red carpet since she burst onto the scene during the Star Wars: The Force Awakens promo tour. The films costume designer is nominated at the Costume Designers Guild Awards on Tuesday and I am hoping that Daisy will be on the red carpet. I think that chances are likely since Daisy is one of the presenters at the Oscars next Sunday. For the CDG Awards I would love to see Daisy keep expanding her designer repertoire and wear this amazing Oscar de la Renta Fall 2016 RTW photographic floral jacquard printed draped tea length a-line gown. I think that is would be a very chic and classic way for Daisy to kick off Oscar week. I am probably the most excited to see what Daisy is going to wear over Oscar week and I think that this would be a perfect look for her to rock. A pink clutch to match the print, a chic updo, black sandals and a light pink lip would ensure that Daisy continues to wow on the red carpet.
Kiernan Shipka is the one former star of Mad Men that is able to consistently able to give me stellar red carpet moments. I am hoping that she will be on hand at the Costume Designers Guild Awards as she always makes me swoon. Recently we have seen Kiernan start to expand her style and experiment with more grown up looks. I would love to see Kiernan wearing this gunmetal grey J. Mendel Fall 2016 RTW pleated asymmetrical gown as I think it's a chic more grown up look on the red carpet, but still appropriate for a 16 year old to wear on the red carpet. Chic waves, fresh faced makeup, a gunmetal clutch, and a pair of gunmetal Jimmy Choo sandals would ensure that Kiernan has a gorgeous red carpet moment at the CDG Awards.
The costume designer for American Horror Story: Hotel is nominated for a Costume Designers Guild Award and I am sure that Lady Gaga is going to be on hand as you could very much see her influence on costuming with couture designers like Ashi Studio and Stephane Rolland (favorites of Gaga) featured on the show. I would love to see Gaga wearing this embellished and feathered Saint Lauren Fall 2016 RTW Part 1 dress on the red carpet. Gaga was on hand at the Hollywood Palladium for this presentation and I think that this is probably the look that screams her name the most. This major 60's moment is something that I think Gaga is one of the only that could make this look not look like a costume. I would not have the thick black belt in favor of a thin silver Prada bow belt and add a pair of silver pumps would ensure that Gaga would have a major red carpet moment.
Lily James was in Cinderella alongside Cate Blanchett and the film is nominated for a Costume Designers Guild Award. I am hoping that Lily is on the red carpet and chooses this pink Elie Saab Spring 2016 Couture 3D floral embroidered cocktail dress. Lily wore Elie Saab quite a few times while promoting the movie and I would love to see her end wearing this flirty cocktail dress. Lily is not herself nominated so I think that couture is appropriate since it is a cocktail dress. I would add a pair of gold pumps, old Hollywood waves over one shoulder, and a pink lip to finish this look perfectly for Lily and the CDG Awards.

2016 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 15

Hilary Swank usually knocks it out of the park when she steps out on the red carpet and I am hoping that she will be one of the many stars to grace the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Hilary has an animated movie coming out this year (as well as being a Vanity Fair party regular) so I think the chances of her showing up are quite high. I would love to see Hilary work the red carpet in this dusty rose and mauve Valentino Pre-Fall 2016 long sleeve embroidered gown. This gown is classic and elegant with modern Japanese inspired embroidery which I think would make for a very romantic red carpet moment for Hilary. Keeping the look romantic with a chic updo, a gold clutch, and a pair of gold sandals would ensure that the romanticism of this gown is on full display.
Last year Karolina Kurkova took to the red carpet at the Academy Awards, Elton John AIDS Foundation, and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party as a promotional deal for Chopard. While I loved her Vanity Fair look I was underwhelms by her other looks. I am used to Karolina giving some of the most glam avant garde red carpet looks. For this years Vanity Fair party I would love to see Karolina wearing this black Brandon Maxwell Fall 2016 RTW column gown with a dramatic bust ruffle. I think that this gown will either end up on the back of Lady Gaga or a supermodel, I don't think anyone else has the chutzpah to pull this gown off. With such a dramatic ruffle I would have Karolina style her hair into a tight low bun, add a pair of diamond drop earrings (but nothing to big), add a red lip, a black crystal embellished Alexander McQueen clutch, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin sandals and this look is set to wow on the red carpet.
Michelle Monaghan has been faltering with her red carpet style recently. I usually love what the actress wears on the red carpet but the ugly shapeless orange and blue Prabal Gurung gown that Michelle wore to the Warner Bros/InStyle Golden Globes party was a disaster. I am praying that glam Michelle is back on the red carpet come Oscar night. To get her back on track I picked this amazing wine Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2016 gown rendered in double face duchesse satin and features a mermaid silhouette with a wrap around off the shoulder neckline and a flounced asymmetrical hem. I think that this gown is a dramatic and classic look all at the same time. This makes me think of some of the great looks that came out of the 1940's and I am hoping that is the way that Michelle would take the styling. A chic vintage inspired updo, a pair of diamond drop earrings, a dyed to match satin box clutch, and a pair of dyed to match peep toe pumps would ensure that Michelle is back on top form.
Miley Cyrus is a usual at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party, and since her name has been back in the headlines again I am wondering if she will be out on Oscar night. If she were to attend the Elton John party I would kinda like to see edgy glam Miley on the red carpet over whacked out Miley. I think that this black Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2016 rouched crepe jersey gown which features a leather harness-like grommeted detail would be a perfect look to mesh edge and glamour for Oscar night. When it comes to Miley I have a love or loathe type of relationship and her loathe usually comes when she takes things too far. Her blonde pixie cut, a black clutch, and a pair of black sandals would ensure that Miley has a glam rocker moment on Hollywood's biggest night.
Rounding out my final post of Oscar party wishes is Viola Davis, whom I am expecting to grace the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party since she was one of the cover girls of the magazines 2016 Hollywood issue. After the backlash of #OscarsSoWhite I am interested to see which African-American stars show up on the Oscar night red carpets. I hope that doesn't mean Viola won't be out as she earned her place on that Vanity Fair cover. I would love to see Viola wearing this bordeaux banded jersey knit Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall 2016 sheath gown with a criss-cross halter neckline, and triangle cutouts at the bodice and back. We have not seen the sexier side of Viola in a while and I think an Oscar party is the perfect place for that side of her to show up on the red carpet. A black clutch, a pair of black sandals, a red lip, diamond drop earrings, and a wavy bob would ensure that Viola really brings it to the Vanity Fair red carpet.

15 posts and 75 wishes later that concludes all my wishes for the Vanity Fair and Elton John Oscar parties. Some of these people I know will be out on Oscar night and some of them I do not. Tomorrow will be a quick post for some ladies to wear amazing looks for the Costume Designers Guild Awards and then the big main stage Oscars posts start on Monday with the nominees. I will be live tweeting the Academy Awards next Sunday night. Are you going to pour yourself a glass of champagne and join me?
